Two hundred and twenty one years ago today, our Founders gathered in Philadelphia to sign the Constitution. That makes it the world’s oldest Federal Constitution currently in effect. Hooray for us!
Let’s not quibble about how much of it is still in effect. It’s really only the Bill of Rights that has been tattered of late, and those ten Amendments weren’t proposed until 1789. Maybe some people are still getting used to them.
Anyway, Happy Constitution Day.
I’d also like to make a special mention of Canada, which we affectionately know as America’s hat. Thanks for keeping the top of our heads warm all these years. You’re lovely people. Really, you are.
If you want to show your appreciation to Canada, you can buy the t-shirt offered at Busted Tees. It’s a beautiful thing. (But don’t buy it unless you’ve already gotten your FierceBob.com T. We must strive to keep our priorities straight.)
To express your appreciation to the founders of our Constitution, and to its defenders, perhaps you could join the American Civil Liberties Union. Protecting freedom begins at home.
